Based on E. B. White's 1952 novel of the same name, Charlotte's Web is a fantasy comedy-drama movie released in the United States in 2006. It is the second cinematic adaptation of White's novel and a live-action/CGI remake of the 1973 animated version created by Hanna-Barbera Productions, directed by Gary Winick and written by Susannah Grant and Karey Kirkpatrick. In addition to Dominic Scott Kay, Julia Roberts, Steve Buscemi, John Cleese, Oprah Winfrey, Thomas Haden Church, André Benjamin, Cedric the Entertainer, Kathy Bates, Reba McEntire, and Robert Redford, the movie stars Dakota Fanning, Kevin Anderson, and Beau Bridges. The movie's music was created by Danny Elfman.
The movie, which was produced by Walden Media, Jordan Kerner's The K Entertainment Company, and Nickelodeon Movies, had its world debut on December 7 in Australia before Paramount Pictures gave it a theatrical distribution on December 15 in the US. Despite the majority of favorable reviews from reviewers, the movie only achieved minor economic success. In addition to earning an extra $95.2 million in home media sales, the film made $83 million at the US box office and $61 million internationally for a worldwide total of $144 million against a $85 million budget.
A runt of a litter of newborn piglets is going to be killed by Fern Arable's father John during the spring on a farm in Somerset County, Maine. Fern gives the piglet the affectionate name Wilbur and successfully asks her father to spare his life. The following morning, Fern snuck Wilbur into her desk at school and told the instructor a fib, forcing her to open it and sending her to the principal's office.
Fern regrettably has to take Wilbur to her uncle Homer Zuckerman's barnyard after he has grown enough. Fern is ordered by Mrs. Arable to remain at home, complete her schoolwork, and go directly to bed one evening as punishment because she has caused her a little concern with her conduct. Wilbur is left feeling alone and seeking for friendship at this time, while the other animals ignore him.
- a comedic, mischievous, rebellious, misunderstood, and "potentially dangerous" rat named Templeton; a serious and steadfast sheep named Samuel; a fun-loving and kindly goose couple named Gussy and Golly; two beautiful and laid-back cow sisters named Bitsy and Betsy; and a cowardly and humorous horse named Ike - until he is befriended by Charlotte A. Cavatica, a beautiful barn spider who lives in the space above Wilbur's sty in the Zuckermans' barn.
Charlotte offers to come up with a strategy that would ensure Wilbur's survival when the other animals inform him that he will be ready for food by Christmas. With Templeton's assistance, Charlotte persuades the Zuckerman family that Wilbur is truly extremely unique by using words like "Some pig," "Terrific," "Radiant," and "Humble" to describe him in her web.
The Arables, Zuckermans, Wilbur, Charlotte, and Templeton eventually visit a fair where Wilbur enters a competition. While there, Charlotte gives birth to an egg sac holding her unborn child, and Wilbur, while not taking home any awards, is subsequently praised by fairgoers and employees, earning him too much notoriety to be killed. Charlotte is dying and too exhausted to go home after producing eggs. She stays at the fair and passes away shortly after Wilbur leaves, but he manages to transport her egg sac home with the aid of Templeton. Wilbur bids her a tearful farewell as he leaves.
The next spring, hundreds of Charlotte's children emerge, and Wilbur survives to experience his first Christmas. While the majority of the young spiders soon depart, three called Joy, Aranea, and Nellie stay and grow to be Wilbur's pals.
